I’ve never seen a physio before, what happens in a session?

If you’ve never seen a physiotherapist before, you’re not alone! Many people aren’t quite sure what to expect from their first visit. At jem physio, our goal is to make your experience comfortable, supportive, and focused on helping you move and feel your best.

1. Getting to know you
Your first session starts with a conversation. We’ll talk about what’s brought you in, whether it’s an injury, ongoing pain, stiffness, or something that’s stopping you from doing what you love. We’ll also discuss your lifestyle, health history, and goals so we can get a full picture of what’s going on.

2. Understanding your movement
Next, we’ll look at how your body moves. This may involve trying to reproduce your symptoms, evaluating your range of movement, strength, mobility and more. Think of this like detective work, we’re trying to piece together the puzzle to figure out what is contributing to your symptoms and why.

3. Treatment planning and delivery
Based on the assessment findings we’ll discuss treatment options, both in clinic with the aim to change (and ideally improve) your symptoms, and outside of clinic to continue your progress. Hands on treatments may include techniques like soft tissue massage, dry needling, mobilisation techniques, and tailored exercises. We’ll also do some education to help you feel informed and empowered as you move through your recovery journey.

4. Your personalised management plan
Before you go, we’ll talk through a clear plan designed around your goals, whether that’s returning to sport, easing daily pain, or improving strength and mobility. We’ll explain everything along the way and make sure you feel confident about your next steps.

At jem physio, we’re here to help you understand your body, move with confidence, and get back to doing the things you enjoy. Your journey to better movement starts with one simple step — booking your first session.
